Become a Volunteer and Help Us Help Others

Volunteers are an important part of TMG and the work that we do. We have a broad network of volunteers from a wide range of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. There are opportunities for volunteering in many areas, such as with our 24 hour emergency helpline, victim support, project development, events organising and campaigning support.

ESOL Teacher

3 hours per week - afternoon or evening session

Volunteer English teachers are required to teach ‘survival’ English to migrant workers residing in Torbay. Students will not work towards a formal qualification but rather it is hoped that the classes will provide a grounding in basic language skills that will help them in everyday life. Teachers will be required to commit to weekly/fortnightly classes of around 2 hours but will also need to prepare lessons.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

* TEFL/ESOL Qualifications, would be an advantage but are not essential.
* Fluent English.
* Good communication skills.
* A commitment to the aims and objectives of TMG.
* Volunteers must be sensitive to cultural differences and be reliable.

Outreach and Publicity Worker

Volunteers are required to assist with a range of Outreach and Publicity activities. This could include publicising the project through leafleting, visiting ethnic businesses, attending events with an information stand and supporting victims of racial harassment and violence through fortnightly advice surgeries. Outreach work may also include assisting with casework and befriending victims of racial violence and harassment.

* Volunteers must be culturally sensitive
* Reliability
* Good communication skills
* Volunteers must be respect client confidentiality.
* A commitment to the aims and objectives of TMG.
