The Prison Service will be the target of fresh criticism over emerging evidence of how a Muslim prisoner was murdered by his cellmate

Britain's prison system faces scrutiny this weekend over its treatment of ethnic minority prisoners as new evidence is revealed about how an Asian inmate was killed by his white cellmate. The inquest into the death of Shahid Aziz, 30, will pose new questions about the role of staff at Leeds prison and raise fresh concerns about overcrowding in Britain's jails. Aziz was murdered within minutes of being locked in the same cell as Peter McCann, who had twice been caught in possession of an object with a blade in the weeks before the killing and had attacked fellow inmates on two previous occasions. Despite his history of violence, McCann, 25, was considered a 'low risk' threat to other prisoners.

Racist abuse led to loss of unborn baby

A family tormented by racist bullies lost an unborn baby due to the stress it caused. Pakistani couple Shaun and Afshan Hussain begged Milton Keynes Council to relocate them from Stirling House in West Bletchley.But yesterday, a day after being told they would not be moved, they went for their first scan only to discover 26-year-old Afshan had miscarried their third child.

Anti-bullying lessons for schools

Schools across Northern Ireland are gearing-up to challenge racist, sectarian and cyber bullying. Anti-Bullying Week runs from Monday 19 - Friday 23 November and children of all ages will be taking part. An anti-bullying art mural will be unveiled in Belfast's Castle Lane on Tuesday 20 November.

Cops accused of racist attack are still on patrol

Riot cops under investigation for an alleged violent and racist attack on a father and son from Highgate are still patrolling the streets. Last week the Ham&High reported that Alphonse Mendy and his son Bani were beaten by baton wielding police before being arrested outside their home on Lissenden Gardens.

Residents who witnessed the incident on Friday March 9 have written letters of complaint to police chiefs about the behaviour of the officers from the Territorial Support Group (TSG), who remain on duty. Mr Mendy's wife Maggie, who is a member of the Camden Community and Police Consultative Group, said the police need to root out the offenders.

Lawrence probe 'near completion'

An inquiry into claims of police corruption in the first investigation into the murder of Stephen Lawrence is expected to be complete by the summer.  The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) interviewed police officers about allegations made in a BBC documentary last year. IPCC deputy chairman John Wadham said the inquiry had "made progress.
