Chinese Student Drowns under Suspicious Circumstances

Tan-Li.jpgOn Tuesday 3 July 2007, Tan Li, a young nineteen year old Chinese student lost his life whilst swimming at the Southgate Leisure Centre. His parents want to know how it is possible for someone as young and fit and Li to loose his life minutes after stepping into a public swimming pool.

Currently there is a joint Police and Health and Safety investigation into the unexplained death. However, for Li’s parents the tragedy of loosing the only son is compounded by Enfield Council’s refusal to meet the family or answer their questions. The family believes that the authority may have been negligent in their duty to provide a safe swimming pool.

The police investigators have informed the family that they initially viewed the death as suspicious but were keeping an open mind on the cause of the death. A further meeting with the police has been arranged for Tuesday, 7 August 2007 where the police were likely to pass some more information to the Council so that the health and safety requirements could be further examined. However, the police investigator has failed to attend the meeting and thus, no information was given the family.

The Li family has now begun to appeal for witnesses who may be able to shed light on the last moments of their beloved son’s life.
